Highly saturated oil colors bring life to this hand-carved and painted mask by Bali's Nyoman Indrawati Subrata of the Subrata Family. Believed to be king of the spirits, Barong is a panther-like creature that figures prominently in Balinese legend. He is the leader of the hosts of good, and enemy of Rangda, the demon queen. The battle between Barong and Rangda is featured in the Barong dance and represents the eternal battle between good and evil.

“Magnificent!”

Barong is now busy protecting the house, frightening evil spirits but grinning heartily at the rest of us. He has added a colorful and life-enhancing presence that is a delight to encounter daily. After his arrival I particularly enjoyed watching Barong dance rituals on YouTube and highly recommend them to anyone contemplating ordering the mask since you ll understand his significance and character better. Incidentally, I had no trouble hanging him on the wall with a tiny bit of ingenuity.

“Wonderful stars”

I purchased this set and had it gift wrapped. (So beautiful). Im giving my daughter one for her birthday. Plan to mix in with hanging lights.

“Meisterhaft gefertigter Schutzgeist aus balinesicher Mythologie”

Ich besitze bereits eine Barong Maske, die ich während meines Aufenthalts in Bali in einer kleinen Werkstatt in Kuta erworben habe. Im Gegensatz zu all den Masken in den Souvenirshops ist diese, welche ich im Urlaub gekauft habe, schon ziemlich detailliert. Dennoch kann sie dieser Maske nicht im Ansatz das Wasser reichen. Der Detailgrad ist einfach atemberaubend. Man sieht schon beim ersten Blick wie viel Liebe in diese Schnitzerei gegangen ist. Wirklich meisterhafte Handwerkskunst. Erhlich gesagt werden die Bilder dem eigentlichem Produkt nicht gerecht. Was noch zu erwähnen sei ist, dass das Holz deutlich heller ist als die Fotos vermuten lassen. Vielleicht eine Frage der Beleuchtung. Das ist aber keine Kritik.
