This elaborate and colorful African mask comes to us from Awudu Saaed in Ghana. The artisan carves the mask by hand from sese wood and paints it in green, dark red, black and brown. The cheeks and forehead feature colorful recycled glass beads in patterns reminiscent of tribal scarification.

Not sure how I stumbled upon this mask in the first place but from the moment I saw it, something about it haunted me. Its beautiful. I could NOT stop thinking about it and finally caved, and Im so glad I did. The colors, the beadwork, and the craftsmanship are all incredible. This is my favorite piece of art we own, by far. I cant wait to collect more of Awudu Saaeds work.
