The fiber from the junco reed, found locally in Honduras, is woven in a tight half-circle to form this fun pair of lightweight button earrings. Handcrafted by Honduran artisan Cristina Hernández, the earrings alternate in color between deep blue and the natural off-white of the junco reed, reminiscent of a refreshing lime wedge.

These are by far the BEST watermelon earrings I have EVER found! They are tightly and beautifully woven with natural fibers that are soft to the touch, but strong and able to hold the shape of the jewelry made from them. The colors are outstanding. Often, watermelon themed jewelry or fabric use bright red with kelly green, which, to me, doesnt look natural. The red pigment used to dye these earrings is definitely red, but it is a softer, more muted red, with just a touch of rose in it. In the photo, the green looks brighter than I normally like, but since there is so little of it, I ordered the earrings anyway. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the green is actually a deeper, more neutral pine color, which is so perfect with this shade of red. The seeds? Adorable. And the price is just amazing--worth double, if you ask me!
