This captivating oblong mask with large, slanted eyes is the creation of West Africa's Theophilus Anum. The artisan carves the mask from local sese wood, then hand paints a large doll onto the mask's red forehead.

The workmanship is superb, the colors are subtle but perfect, the piece has a certain heft that is hard to explain but much appreciated. Im sure to look for his pieces when I next order a mask.
