Details

Master ceramist Walter Jose Acosta replicates the art of the Chimu culture with this canine vase. Acosta is faithful to the artistic details and colors favored by the Chimu, who lived in northern Peru between 1100 and 1400 B.C. Acosta crafts a stunning ceramic replica, which he paints with natural pigments. The sculpture is then buried in the ground for a few days to achieve a weathered look.

Beautiful Museum-Quality Art”

The Chimu Dog is my third piece of Mr. Acostas work. We have the owl cat and another piece (square Cupisnique cat?). The detail is very fine and particularly love the earthy finish. Never been to Peru but have been reading up on these older cultures through the influence of seeing your work. We were glad to find your loan on Kiva to be able to support your workshop. Phenomenal!

Lovely friend of the family”

After visiting Peru, was saddened that we didnt bring home more art for home, for we fell in love with the people, food and history. Novica and this amazing artist have provided us with a lovely treasure for our home. We bought 4 pieces, and this dog is a joy to see each day. High craftmanship, skill, and attention to detail are qualities of each piece. Highly recommend this artists work.

Beautiful conversation piece”

I bought this as a gift for myself to always remember the birth of my daughter and the beauty of delivering with a midwife. Having this piece in my home creates an opportunity to share this history and my connection to the story it tells.
