Son of a papier mache artisan, Fida Hussein in India continues that tradition. He crafts a small round box, from weeping willow wood covered with papier mache. He then sands and paints it carefully in exquisite detail. The red and gold box features a chinar leaf motif and a velvet lining to store small treasures.

I also bought the matching hearts shaped box. I love them both! Thank you, Fida Hussain, for such beautiful workmanship.

I recall my friend from India gave me an elephant decor when I moved away. I certainly can imagine these ornaments as symbolic of carrying one of the wise men that Christians celebrate at Epiphany (January 6).
