Wood mask, "Classic Comic"

A furrowed forehead and wide lip characterize this comical mask by Nyoman Naranata. It portrays Bondres. The much-loved clown in Balinese dance-drama, Bondres usually appears at the end of the performance to add a touch of comedy. The personage has even spawned a drama form of his own, known as Babondresan, to provide light entertainment.

Hibiscus wood exhibits colors ranging from white to light gray, dark gray or even black heartwood. This natural occurrence can rarely be replicated, making each carving exceptionally unique.
