"I work with kapok, which is a soft wood, so I have to use a very sharp knife to just scrape away at the wood to shape their heads, body and wings. The different colors come from different parts of the wood," explains the Ghanaian artisan. The ornaments hang from jute strings.

A ray of white light centres this radiant tapestry by Efrain Curi. Gradually shading toward warm golds and ochres, it is meticulously created on the Andean handloom. Curi uses the kilim, or "slit" technique. The different yarns are not dovetailed or interlocked, but each colour field is woven independently of the other and their vertical edges are open. This technique is widely seen on medieval and Renaissance tapestries.

"Northern Thai women are so kind, so different and so mild-mannered. This work tells about the northern Thai lifestyle. Women usually meet each other at the morning market. I wanted to represent them with graceful and gentle lines," Alaya Cholprasertsuk explains. Her elegant batik design depicts shoppers and merchants in a beautiful wall hanging.

As each piece is individually dyed, colors may vary slightly, making each wall hanging a unique work of art.
