The imaginative mind of Armando Ramirez transforms scrap metal into a sleek, black and silver chess set. Ramirez collects the leftover metal pieces off a die machine and shapes them into the pawns, horses, and parts of the kings, which also feature cogs from a car's electrical system. The queens are made from screws, auto part cogs and bearings. The bishops are shaped from spark plugs and the towers from cogwheels. The board is made from a metal sheet and features ornate iron wires and bendix caps taken from a car.

Please note it is the artist's intention not to give his sculptures a fine polished finish, therefore smudges and scratches may be present. The finish can vary from matte to shiny, as each chess set is a unique piece of handcrafted art.

Emblematic of Mexico yet popular throughout the world, five mariachis play a serenade. Armando Ramírez crafts the images from an assortment of recycled metal and automobile parts. Sheet metal scraps, metal screen, spark plugs, washers, screws and wire all find a new life in this unique sculpture set.

Like pre-Hispanic warriors, rustic figures do battle atop a pyramid. This wonderful creation is the work of Armando Ramírez. Queens are fashioned of screws and bearings, kings are cogwheels and metal scraps, while sparkplugs and other castoffs find a new life as sculpture. Combining art and function, Ramírez creates each piece from discarded automobile parts.

Entitled "Market Woman Return II" by Kola Ogunsunlade Joseph, we see depicted a woman holding her basket under her arm. Rather than balancing it on her head as she would do if it were full and she were beginning the selling of her wares, her curved posture suggests the fatigue felt at the end of a hard day. The viewer senses a tangible identification on the part of the artist for the plight of the African woman and, by extension, for the toils and tribulations of all women.

Taking an average of four days to create each sculpture, Kola Ogunsunlade Joseph carefully assembles pre-prepared metal plates and objects he has found and fuses them with arc welding materials. An application of a clear varnish protects the piece and adds a gleaming, elegant finish.
