Felicita Espinoza shares the beauty of traditional Peruvian architecture with hand-painted detail. The scene involves women huddled together spinning wool, while two walk home. Espinoza paints the scene on the reverse side of the glass panes decorating this wood jewelry box.

Colonial homes line a cobblestone lane that leads toward a volcano in the distance. "Calle San Francisco is one of my favorite streets in Antigua — its colours and flowers, the beautiful landscape," Bonifacio Maxia Cutzal confides. He works in luminous oils to paint this beautiful and evocative work of art.

In the colonial city of Antigua, the convent of Saint Catherine, Virgin and Martyr, was the home of cloistered nuns. It spans both sides of the street, and the arch of Santa Catalina was built to provide a private walkway so the nuns didn't have to go out in public. Painted a cheerful yellow, today it is landmark for tourists and residents alike as Victor Mayor depicts the street scene as it is today.

Neighbors go about their daily shores in a small Guatemalan village. Carrying a hoe over his shoulder, a man walks homeward past women drawing water from the well and a boy who feeds the chickens and turkey. An older woman kneels beneath a shade tree to weave on a backstrap loom. "This is a scene I saw in my own hometown," says artist Bonifacio Maxia Cutzal, who signs his work as "Boni." "I was on my way home from delivering some paintings when I paused to watch this family at work, and I wanted to share a glimpse of my country."
