Derived from the wisdom of Ghana's Akan people, Sankofa embodies the profound principle of drawing strength from the past to forge a prosperous future. This captivating wall art by Ali Ibrahim features one of the two Sankofa symbols: a mythical bird eating a precious egg. This artful creation that also showcases a pair of lizards is hand-carved from sese wood, painted by hand and embellished with embossed aluminium and brass accents.

Carved by hand from sese wood, this handsome sculpture is the work of Winfred Korley. Ghana's renowned handwoven kente cloth envelops the handle of a rustic machete. On the blade, adinkra symbols include the gye nyame (the supremacy of God) and sankofa (learn from the past). "In my own tribe, the Ga, newly elected chiefs are given this machete to hold during their inauguration," the artisan explains.

A loop on the handle permits it to hang on the wall.

Next is the most widely known symbol, Gye Nyame, hailing God's supremacy and the fifth one is Sankofa, which encourages to learn from the past.

Working with sese wood, the Ghanaian artisan crafts a traditional mask perfect for adding a cultural vibe to your interiors. On top of that, the artwork features a palette of vibrant hues, bird motifs and aluminium plates for a dazzling vibe.

The warm and prosperous lands of the Ghanaian region inspire artisan Philip Dankwa to honour them with a marvelous sese wood mask, titled Sankori, meaning "a good place." The artisan uses meticulous techniques to create this sublime piece, later painted in yellow, blue and red hues for a regal look.

"This is my lovely bird," confides Kobina Asmah of this amazing sculpture. Turning its head back on itself, this bird becomes the Sankofa symbol that reminds one to retrieve from the past that which is useful, and carry it forward. Asmah is inspired by the legendary Adinkra symbols of Ashanti origin to carve this spectacular sese wood sculpture. Holding a seed in its beak, the bird has colorful wings studded with recycled glass beads, and etched patterns on its long neck. The base is inlaid with brass motifs.
