This substantial little turtle is more a fine example of alebrije without having the slightly menacing look of many of them. the detail is amazing, and the expression on its face is wonderful - both knowing and olayful. The colors fit well with current decor while retaining a folk art feel.
Gifted this for Christmas to my sister, and she seemed delighted with it. It should look lovely in a home which sits in the foothills of the Blue Ridge where wildlife is abundant.
A pair of glamorous stools with exquisite geometric motifs are a charming addition to the garden room in my nineteen century row house in Baltimore. Seated on the chairs are two West African fish carved from wood in shades of green and yellow. Bravo!
