Levantando el dobladillo de sus amplias faldas, una hermosa catrina en azul se lanza a un sevillana. María Lozano en México elabora la impresionante figura esquelética de papel maché, pintándola cuidadosamente a mano. Lozano diseña la figurilla a partir de la original "La Calavera Catrina", un grabado en zinc creado por el artista José Guadalupe Posada en México alrededor de 1910. Posada creó el personaje, un esqueleto femenino con un elegante sombrero, como un retrato satírico de los nativos mexicanos que aspiraban al estilo europeo y negaron su propia herencia. Desde entonces, la catrina se ha convertido en un emblema de la celebración del Día de Muertos en México y en un tema de arte popular popular.

This alebrije is amazing. I bought it to add to may collection of Marina Lozanos beautiful work. I tell my 7 year old grand daughter that these will be hers someday...and that they are not toys but works of art.

I was on the fence about this one but ultimately decided that the idea of a seahorse with butterfly wings with too amusing to pass up. Now that I have it it is a lot prettier than I realized from the pictures
