Bachpan is the Hindi word for "childhood", which is the theme for Indian artist Bharti Dayal's folk painting of a girl playing under the sun with a traditional game and surrounded by birds, flowers and leaves. The colorful painting is a beautiful representation of the Madhubani style crafted with acrylic paint and vegetable dyes applied with brushes, sharpened reeds and pen nibs to handmade paper.

This painting is delightful, a great combination of traditional form and colors and modern, geometrical composition. I love the parrots expression and the checkerboard-bird background.
