Como alebrijes nadar a través del subconsciente de la imaginación del artesano, parece apropiado que tengan aletas como las tiene esta tortuga marina multicolor tallada a mano. Fabricado con madera de copal, este alebrijes estatuilla de los artesanos Jesús y Roxana Hernández de Oaxaca, México, tiene una concha en gloriosos tonos de verde, morado, lavanda y marrón; los diseños geométricos creativos están pacientemente pintados a mano. Las aletas rosadas y la cabeza azul completan la tortuga marina.

Se dice que Oaxaca alebrijes la tradición desciende directamente del artesano de papel maché de la Ciudad de México, Pedro Linares (1906-1992). Cuando tenía 30 años, enfermó gravemente y cayó en una especie de coma. Mientras estaba inconsciente, tuvo un sueño fantástico. Estaba atrapado entre la tierra de los vivos y la de los muertos; el lugar parecía un bosque y estaba poblado de criaturas con partes del cuerpo pertenecientes a diferentes animales. Los seres pronunciaron repetidamente la palabra alebrijes, y cuando Linares despertó, recreó estas figuras en colores vivos utilizando técnicas de papel maché y las llamó alebrijes. Su trabajo se hizo famoso y finalmente influyó en los artesanos del estado de Oaxaca que decidieron elaborar alebrijes utilizando métodos tradicionales de tallado en madera y de acuerdo con la cosmovisión de esa región.

Beautiful, bigger than I expected”

This is a lovely hummer; the tail pieces are individual but the wings are thankfully already glued together. Very charming.
