Dúo de marido y mujer Zeny and Reyna de Oaxaca creció con la tradición del tallado alebrijes (figuras fantásticas de animales reales e imaginarios); ambos padres eran maestros talladores del arte popular tradicional de esa región. Aquí crean un caracol maravillosamente colorido y con gran detalle. El caracol está tallado a mano en madera de copal y pintado con una amplia gama de patrones meticulosos.

Las piezas pequeñas se separan para el envío para protegerlas contra roturas. Se dice que Oaxaca alebrije La tradición desciende directamente del artesano de la Ciudad de México Pedro Linares (1906-1992). Cuando tenía 30 años, enfermó gravemente y cayó en una especie de coma. Mientras estaba inconsciente, tuvo un sueño fantástico. Estaba atrapado entre el mundo de los vivos y el de los muertos; el lugar parecía un bosque y estaba poblado de criaturas con partes del cuerpo pertenecientes a diferentes animales. Los seres pronunciaban repetidamente la palabra alebrije, y cuando Linares despertó, recreó estas figuras en colores vivos utilizando técnicas de papel maché y las llamó alebrijes Su obra se hizo famosa y acabó influyendo en los artesanos del estado de Oaxaca que decidieron elaborar alebrijes utilizando métodos tradicionales de tallado de madera y de acuerdo a la visión del mundo de esa región.

Love my new Zeny and Reyna hummingbird!”
