Meticulosamente pintado a mano en tonos vivos y una variedad de patrones, este camello de dos jorobas ejemplifica la alebrije tradición de Oaxaca, México. Hecho a mano por Jesus and Roxana Hernandez, la escultura decorativa está realizada en madera de copal. Los artesanos mexicanos quieren llamar la atención sobre las increíbles artesanías que los talladores de madera de su pueblo son capaces de producir, y Jesús reconoce que mientras él y Roxana tallan y decoran estas criaturas imaginarias, "... contribuimos a hacer que nuestra comunidad sea más próspera. "

El alebrije la tradición comenzó con el artesano de papel maché de la Ciudad de México, Pedro Linares (1906-1992). Cuando tenía 30 años entró en coma debido a una grave enfermedad. Mientras estaba inconsciente, soñó que estaba atrapado entre la tierra de los vivos y la de los muertos; el lugar parecía un bosque y estaba poblado de criaturas con partes del cuerpo pertenecientes a diferentes animales. Los seres pronunciaron repetidamente la palabra. alebrije. Al recuperarse, Linares recreó estas figuras en colores vivos utilizando técnicas de papel maché y las llamó alebrije. Su trabajo se hizo famoso y fue una de las principales influencias de los artesanos del estado de Oaxaca que comenzaron a elaborar alebrije propios utilizando métodos tradicionales de tallado en madera.
