Este jarrón decorativo de cerámica está hecho a mano por el alfarero Chorotega Harry García de la Península de Nicoya en Costa Rica. El jarrón redondo está pintado a mano en un color marrón intenso y presenta una variedad de motivos lineales y geométricos cuyo grabado deja ver el color arena natural de la cerámica.

La cerámica chorotega está completamente hecha a mano con técnicas tradicionales transmitidas de generación en generación durante 3000 años, y es uno de los últimos elementos culturales sobrevivientes del pueblo chorotega indígena de la región de Guanacaste en Costa Rica y la península de Nicoya. La cerámica chorotega está hecha de arcilla local mezclada con arena muy fina de agua dulce. Los artesanos dan forma a la arcilla en ruedas de alfarería manuales y pulen a mano la obra de arte para darle una textura suave y brillo. Los diseños están grabados a mano y las piezas están pintadas con pigmentos naturales hechos de rocas de colores locales pulverizadas mezcladas con agua, y luego cocidas en hornos tradicionales de ladrillos a leña. El resultado es una hermosa cerámica de barro única en esta región.

“A wonderful addition to my vase collection”

There are many ways to be connected to your heritage. Mine is a discreet way with vases from the region. This vase arrived today in a well packaged box. It warned it was fragile and it should be handled with care. Therefore, opening it was consuming but i am grateful because the vase is in total great shape. The colors are not exactly like the picture, I think the artist may do variation on this theme. I am happy with the purchase. This is the second vase by Harry Garcia. Thank you !

“Glad to have bought it.”

Wow! The vessel was well packed, and it took me a long time to unwrap it. Yet, be aware that sometimes, no matter what efforts made , an accident will happen. When I finally opened it a leg was missing but found in the wrapping paper. It was easily solved by gluing the leg again in place. Nobody will ever know of this mishap. Happy with the purchase.
