This extraordinary vase is a hand crafted Chimu replica by the talented Walter Jose Acosta. Working with ceramic, he shapes the long neck into a face. The main body is adorned with the painted image of a priest praying to the rain gods for a bountiful harvest. The ceramic art of the Chimu culture had one of three intentions, for daily domestic use, for ceremonies, or for burials, which usually were the most artistically elaborate. In general, Chimu ceramics are characterized by a metallic black hue.
