La hermosa Bawang cierra los ojos en meditación mientras su canción de esperanza llega a los cielos y le trae riquezas. Uno de los muchos personajes legendarios de Bali, la suya es una historia de fundamentos morales mientras su destino la sorprende. Wayan Rendah talla a mano su rostro en madera de hibisco para capturar el origen etéreo de Bawang con la veta bicolor de la madera. La máscara, detallada elocuentemente, presenta un pájaro picoteando tesoros en la cabeza de Bawang. Una pieza de lo más vívida acompañada de misticismo para complementar una colección personal.

Bawang era una humilde mujer que envidiaba a su hermana Kesuna, que, aunque rica, estaba llena de lujuria y la desterró al bosque. Asustada, Bawang comenzó a rezar pidiendo protección; su oración era similar al trino de un pájaro. Pronto los pájaros comenzaron a picotear sus brazos y cuello, dejando atrás brazaletes y collares de oro. Cuando Kesuna vio el destino de su hermana, corrió al bosque en busca de protección, sin embargo, en lugar de joyas, solo encontró serpientes y escorpiones.

La madera de hibisco presenta colores que van desde el blanco hasta el gris claro, el gris oscuro o incluso el duramen negro. Esta ocurrencia natural rara vez se puede reproducir, lo que hace que cada talla sea excepcionalmente única.
