Robert Kofi Ellis diseña una extraordinaria versión de la legendaria muñeca de la fertilidad de origen Akan. Llamada Akuaba, la muñeca se caracteriza por una cabeza grande y redonda, un cuello muy corto, brazos abiertos y un cuerpo largo y delgado. Tallada en madera de sese, la escultura está adornada con placas de aluminio en la cabeza y los pechos, así como labios, párpados y detalles pintados de rojo en su tocado.

Según la leyenda, había una vez una mujer que no podía concebir, por lo que el sacerdote del pueblo le dijo que confeccionara una muñeca, la vistiera y la cuidara como si fuera un niño. Pronto tendría un hijo propio. La costumbre persiste y muchas mujeres preparan su propia muñeca Akuaba y, cuando nace el niño, Akuaba se le da como primer juguete.
