Glad I took a chance!”

This artist was either new to Novice or revamping their page when I bought my first of their paintings. There were no photos of the works in full and only 2-3 works offered. I took a chance on this and had no idea what it would look like. This makes me smile! Now there r lots of works on the artists page and most are on my wish list!

New style for my home!”

I think I got this just as this artist was joining the Novica family. There was not a full length picture of the art on their page. Just a close up of the artist signature..I took a chance, because I am a bird person. The artist had only 3 paintings listed! Since this one, I have purchased 2 more other paintings and have more on my wish list. Now there are many paintings and all have full pics. I like this artists creations, and the hope to collect more!

Customer & Stylist Suggestions

Meet the Artist
The best thing about my art is its ability to connect people and tell stories. I wish to spread the beauty of traditional Madhubani Art to the whole world." "Hello friends, I am Sarita Devi, a Madhubani artist, from the state of Bihar, India. I was honored with the State Merit Award in 2021.

"I come from a family deeply involved in the traditional art form of Madhubani painting. My artistic journey has been greatly influenced by my parents and siblings. My mother taught me the intricate techniques and stories behind the art, while my father's folk tales inspires many of my paintings. Collaborating with my creative family members in our vibrant home helped me to honor our heritage while exploring new designs in Madhubani art.

"Growing up in a family rich in artistic heritage, my interest in Madhubani art was sparked at a very young age. Inspired by the vibrant colors and intricate patterns that adorned our walls, I learned the techniques and cultural significance behind each motif from my skilled Madhubani artist mother. As I delved deeper into the history and tradition of Madhubani art, I found a connection with our community and its folklore, driving my passion to preserve and innovate within this beautiful art form. Each piece I create is a celebration of my roots and personal journey as an artist.

"As a teenager, I delved deep into painting, blending traditional themes with contemporary elements in my Madhubani art. Attending workshops and connecting with other artists broadened my skills and perspective. Teaching children in my village reinforced my skills and fostered community. Participating in exhibitions locally and nationally helped me gain confidence and a wider audience.

"I teach Madhubani art to others too! Sharing my passion for Madhubani art is something I genuinely enjoy. I often hold workshops in my community, where I guide participants through the traditional techniques and motifs. It’s rewarding to see people, especially children, discover their creativity and connect with our cultural heritage.

"I create my own vibrant colors using natural dyes from plants and minerals, connecting my work to traditional methods or sometimes I use Acrylic colors. I prefer using handmade paper for its unique texture and absorbency, allowing colors to blend beautifully. I use brushes made from animal hair or local materials for intricate designs in Madhubani art. Black ink, often made from natural sources like soot, creates strong outlines. I sometimes incorporate embroidery threads for added texture and dimension in my paintings.

"The best thing about my art is its ability to connect people and tell stories. Madhubani art is rich in symbolism and cultural significance, and being able to share those stories through my paintings brings me immense joy. Each piece serves as a bridge between tradition and personal expression, allowing me to convey emotions, experiences, and the essence of my heritage.

"I often collaborate with my family members for my Madhubani painting practice. Working together allows us to blend our individual styles while honoring our cultural heritage. We share techniques, exchange ideas, and inspire each other through our different perspectives. It creates a vibrant, creative atmosphere where we can all learn and grow as artists. Collaborating also strengthens our bond and helps keep the traditions of Madhubani art alive in our family.

"I have participated in several fairs and exhibitions to showcase my Madhubani paintings. One notable exhibition was at a local art festival, where I had the opportunity to display a series of my works that celebrate traditional themes and contemporary interpretations. I also participated in a cultural fair dedicated to Indian art, where I demonstrated the painting techniques and engaged with visitors about the significance of Madhubani art.

"Additionally, I have exhibited my work in government galleries and exhibitions that focus on folk and tribal art, allowing me to connect with other artists and art enthusiasts who share a passion for preserving cultural traditions. These experiences have been invaluable for networking and promoting the beauty of Madhubani painting.

"I am thankful to Novica for giving me an opportunity to exhibit my paintings worldwide. I wish to spread the beauty of traditional Madhubani Art to the whole world."
