In Beninese art, mudfish are a symbol of peace, prosperity, and fertility, for they live between the land of mortals and the spirit world of Olokun, god of water. Anna Yawson designs this admirable hand-carved sese wood sculpture adorned with embossed aluminum plates and copper whiskers.

I bought Asevi as a gift for a friends birthday and wanted to take a look at him myself first, and wow, this figurine is an absolute delight to behold. Gorgeous and bigger than I expected and so pleasing to the touch! I almost wanted to keep the figurine for myself but decided I would just get another one sometime later. I love everything about it, the shape and gesture of the body, the detailing, the color - every element comes together with striking personality. This cat may have left my hands but I think about him often.
