Jose Arriola comes from an artistic family in Guatemala; his father was a noted sculptor and his mother worked in the ceramic arts. Both had workshops in the family home, but Jose was drawn to this mother's work. Today, he makes light-hearted decorative pieces like this hummingbird mobile. He makes and paints each bird by hand, firing them in a traditional wood kiln.

“Gift for a Dear Friend”

I love my hummingbird so much, I wanted my wonderful friend to have one too! It s perfect to hang near your hummingbird feeders…hummers stop by to look at the birds! Beautifully crafted and painted. Thank you, Jose!

“My Husband Loves His Mobile!”

I bought the ceramic mobile Circling Hummingbirds for Fathers Day for my hubby. He absolutely LOVES it! We previously bought a hummingbird mobile from a local garden store and though it was nice, it was just OK, so we returned it. This mobile, however, covers all the bases! Its colorful and speaks to my husband in so many ways as he was a ceramicist himself for many years. Thank you, Jose, for your fine work and attention to detail!

“Great tiny figures”

Jose creates the most beautiful ceramic ornaments and figurines. His family has lived in Antigua for more than 100 years and he takes great pride in practicing the same ceramic techniques his ancestors used. He wishes to help this tradition continue and he teaches anyone in his community who has an interest in learning.
