Expressing Africa's rich mask traditions, Ghanaian artisan Abdul Aziz Mohamadu hand-carves this mask of sese wood. Featuring an oval shape, it is painted with a variety of colours while accented with etched line motifs. Embossed brass accenting the eyes gives the mask a textured surface that reflects traditional scarification practises. A clay rub gives this mask an antiqued finish. Mohamadu names it Amahle, meaning "beautiful ones" in South Africa's Zulu language.

This is the second mask by this artist that I have purchased. This one is more petite and fits well into the artistic scheme on my Livingroom wall.

Abdul is such a talented craftsman and artist, as well. I have had this beautiful box sitting on my coffee table for quite some time now. My apologies to Abdul for the overdue review. Thanks again, Abdul!

The mask lacks vibrance. The colors are dull. Very Primitive in nature. The red doesnt appear as vivid as the photo. The size is nice. I recognize that one cant duplicate a mask over and over exactly due to it being handmade.
