This original sculpture is artisan Emmanuel Opoku Asante's interpretation of a Fante fertility doll. Such dolls would be given to couples that are having difficulty in conceiving a child. The Ghanaian artisan carves the female figure by hand from sese wood and adorns it with recycled glass beads and a loincloth.
