“Batik robe Blue Anemone by Desak Nyoman Parwati”

This arrived on time and I love it. It came in a nice material draw string pouch that can be used for other things. There was a nice little envelope with a hand written note on a small colorful greeting card. Im 5 1 and it was not too long. Still a few inches for someone even shorter. The product is very professionally handmade and sewn. There is even pockets on either side - which is nice. Theres a little loop inside on the back collar to hand the belt as no loops on the robe - perhaps to look nicer. I washed it right away in cold water with Woolite. No noticeable bleed of color...Its made of 100% Rayon. Care is on a little tag inside. It says to dry flat and you can iron it if want... but I just hung it wet and it didnt need ironing. Very happy with the purchase.

“Beautiful batik”

I was looking for a robe to give my daughter when I discovered the Novica robes. They looked so beautiful in the photographs I decided to order one for myself. The fabric pattern is unque. The sewing is extremely well done. The robe arrived very quickly from Bali. It was enclosed in a little fabric bag, all beautifully folded with a booklet for dare and a small postcard of Bali. I appreciate the care and integrity of this item and will definitely buy from Novica again.

“Beautiful!”

The colors are stunning and the craftsmanship is excellent. Only wish it had belt loops to keep the tie in place when not being worn.

“Was one of my favorites”

This robe was one of my very favorites with these patterns and colors. but the material is far weaker than many of the batik robes Ive bought from Novica and it started tearing almost immediately. I havent figured out a way to patch it to make it wearable again. :(

Preserving Traditions

For eleven years Desak worked with a batik artisan learning all aspects of the process, from wax painting to dyeing. From her, she learned not only the art of batik and textile design but also how to care for her workers. In her workshop, Desak and the older artisans generously teach their art to the younger artisans, preserving for another generation this UNESCO cultural treasure.

Microcredit Financing

Desak Nyoman Parwati has received 3 microcredit loans with 0% interest from Kiva and Novica, the first for $2800 and the most recent for $4000. Proceeds were used to invest in the purchase of textiles and batik dyes to increase production in time for the holiday season.

Job Creator

Through perseverance, Desak has grown her workshop. She now employs members of her family and give jobs to other artisans in her community.
