Hand Carved Sese Wood Giant Panda Sculpture from Ghana, "Pondering Panda"

Working towards mastery of woodworking since learning the craft at a young age, artisan Philip Dankwa carves this rustic sese wood sculpture utilizing techniques passed on from preceding mask-makers in his eastern region of Ghana. Abstracting the figure of a Giant Panda, which is only found in China, Philip conveys his respect and passion for the local wildlife that is an everyday part of life in his community.
