A cross centers this intriguing sculpture and geometric motifs surround it, their color enhanced by applications of white clay. "Such diminutive ottoman thrones feature curved 'seats.' They are used as pillows by the Senufu tribe of Northern Cote D'Ivoire," says artisan Salihu Ibrahim. He carves the piece from seasoned African sese wood.
