This beautifully handcrafted sese wood African mask is designed by Ghana's Christopher Kojo Alokpo and depicts a large gye nyame character, a symbol in the Akan language which means "only God." African artisans hand-carve each detail, from the lips and eyes, to the vertical line motifs on top. Aluminum repoussé is then added over portions of the mask to provide contrasting texture and color.

Photographs cannot capture the elegance, sophistication and artistry of this wonderfully graceful sculpture. In person, it has an amazing presence, and is absolutely outstanding work by Christopher Kojo Alokpo. It is a privilege to own this piece and to display it proudly in my home.

The colors and shape of this mask caught my eye, so I purchased for my home. The picture does not do it justice. This is an exceptional piece of art with vibrant color and beautiful detail. I would purchase from this artist again.
