With an expression of sadness, a foreigner recalls his homeland. Sefah Mohammed creates a mask steeped in tradition, applying embossed aluminum and white clay to the sober features. "In olden days, people from Nigeria migrated to Sudan. As time went by, they intermarried with the Sudanese. However, even though they had lived there for a long time, the Nigerians were still considered outsiders. They were referred to as the people of darkness, making reference to the color of their skin," he explains. Mohammed names the mask Dufu, "Darkness" in the Hausa language.
