This rectangular barro negro pencil holder is handcrafted by artisan Anakarem of Oaxaca, who works as a team with his father. Barro negro, literally translated as "black mud," is a type of pottery from clay only found in Oaxaca, Mexico, and crafted using traditional methods. The black colour comes from the clay itself, enhanced during the firing process. This pencil holder has a flower on each side made through a combination of embossing and decorative cutouts.

Honestly, never thought Id want a pencil holder of all things, but this piece has such a great look and feel to it Im glad to have found it. Has a great weight to it, so no worries of it tipping over.

The pencil holder has a nice weight to it and a lovely design. The finish of the ceramic seems a bit organic compared to the vase I ordered. It is not a polished look. It has a artisan look to it which I like. Perfect size and holds quite a few pens, pencils, highlighters. Very nice and unique happy with my purchase. Would make a great gift.
