A tall, oblong face is depicted in this African mask from Ghana. Henry Acquah carves the mask by hand from local sese wood, adding embossed aluminum accents to give it a textured appearance. The mask is painted with colors of red and black for a striking two-tone design. The artisan names this mask after the Gelede performance, in which the Yoruba people dance while wearing various masks.
