A deity holding ears of ripe corn appears on this ceramic vessel from Mexico. Maize was the most important crop in pre-Hispanic Yucatan. His position is reminiscent of the Descending God in the beautiful Maya temple overlooking the Caribbean in Tulum. Beautifully depicted in fine detail, the personage wears a headdress of maize and corn stalks, and lavish large earrings. Artisans from the Angel Ceron Artisan Association create their own conception of an ancient polychrome vessel.
The Descending God is also seen in three other Maya sites in the Yucatan Peninsula — Chichen Itza, Coba and Sayil.

This is a great mask. My husband loved it. We have it hanging just outside on our porch with our cactus.
