By Ahmed Baba Osmanu, this novel jewelry box is steeped in West African tradition. He shapes the piece of sese wood and carves ornamental motifs along the edges. A gecko stands guard on the lid, and embossed aluminum adornments appear on the sides. In bygone times, fetish priests buried medicinal herbs in such boxes to increase their curative powers.
