Exqusite and dynamic!
I have a lot of folk art, including a number of other pieces from John Barrow, and I am mostly only interested in depictions of animals, plants, and geometric forms, not humans. However the colors of the women's dress, combined with the condor, make this one of only a handful of pieces I have in my collection depicting humans, and I am extremely happy with it! One thing I realized I especially love about this piece is the dynamism that comes from having the condor sticking out away from the piece's center of gravity.
Christ, the Prince of Peace
With her usual consummate artistry and imagination, Erika Ulloa offers a prayer for peace in her depiction of the birth of the Christ Child changing soldiers from agents of war into bringers of aid and comfort. For me at least, this takes 'just another nativity scene in my collection" to an instrument of contemplation and of motivation for working for social change. It is a true work of art, that changes the viewer.
