Guatemala's Lopez Garcia Family creates this delightful embellished table runner that is sure to be a conversation starter. The ivory cotton runner is embellished at both ends with quitapenas, or Guatemalan "worry dolls". According to legend, the princess Ixmucané was granted the ability to solve people's problems by the Sun God. Over time, people began to make tiny dolls in remembrance of Ixmucané. They would tell the dolls their problems in the hopes that Ixmucané would solve them. The custom became very popular, and continues to this day. The charming table runner is completed by ivory tassels at both ends.

The Mayan weaving tradition uses the backstrap loom, a type of loom where one end is tied to something solid such as a pole or post and the other end consists of a strap that goes around the user's back. It is with a backstrap loom that this 100% cotton table runner is woven. Thread in eggshell and spice hues is used to create the table linen which features lines of geometric figures. The runner is finished with fringe on each end.

A brightly colored and well made table runner.

I purchased this table runner quite a few years ago from Novica. I loved the stripes and the bright combination of colors. My son really liked it too and talked me into giving it to him for his new house. Mr. Chiroy does very fine work and I will be searching out another replacement table runner from him soon.
