Perfect as a gift or for home decor, this Peruvian nativity scene depicts a group of Andean figurines in celebration of the holy birth. Feriberto Aylas paints each of the nine figurines by hand, featuring Jesus, Joseph, and Mary alongside farm animals and a musical trio that plays traditional instruments.

The sweet tunes of the zampoña panpipe serenade the Andes with nostalgic songs. "The use of the zampoña has become widespread across the world and it is played at different functions," explains Benito Tito. "In Peru we play the zampoña during special ceremonies and traditional rites." Tito crafts this zampoña by hand with 13 bamboo reeds of the same diameter but different length. The pipes are tied together with a woven ribbon.

Tito includes a smaller zampoña as a gift. The set includes woven cases for storing.

Known as toc toc for the sound that they make, these percussion instruments are essential to any Peruvian musical ensemble. Their origin can be traced as far back as pre-Hispanic times. Dionisio Quilla carves the instrument from pumaquiro wood in the shape of two hollow cylinders for double toc toc. One side is longer than the other, resulting in contrasting beats when struck with a stick. The single toc toc features a low relief surface to enrich the sound. The playing sticks are carved from capirona wood.

Original and beautiful, this handsome charango combines pinewood, walnut wood and congona wood. The ten-string Andean instrument is a South American version of the European mandolin, originally crafted from the shell of an armadillo. Benito Tito creates this piece to contrast the grain of three local woods. The guitar features nylon strings and includes a plastic pick. It arrives with a colourful woven cloth case.

Poised to sing sweet melodies of the Andes, this beautiful zampoña panpipe is handcrafted by Benito Tito. Its name, Laca, refers to the presence of the traditional musical instrument at festive events. Tito selects eleven reeds according to size, sands them and aligns them with precision. They are held in place with nylon monofilament and covered with synthetic fabric. A matching fabric case is included; it emulates pre-Hispanic textile design.

This authentic panpipe is called a zampoña - the flute of the Andes that dates back to the Inca empire. The instrument, crafted of bamboo, is comprised of a concave arrangement of 23 pipes. Each pipe is slightly shorter than the next, and each one produces a unique pitch.

The flute arrives in a carrying case that emulates handloomed Inca textiles.

Stylized peacocks and pretty flowers pose on festive ornaments — one each in green, red, yellow and orange. Working in an ancient art they learned from their father, the Canto Sisters craft the set from dried gourds harvested from the yerba mate plant. They are cleaned, dried and painted before the images are meticulously engraved around the surface by hand.

Cultivated on the Peruvian coast for 6,000 years, mate gourds were decorated with images of birds and fish by the pre-Inca Moche and Chimu peoples. But it was the Inca who went on to use the gourds as cups and bowls, in ceremonial objects and in musical instruments.

Because each unique piece is handcrafted from a natural gourd, please expect slight variations in shape, size and motifs.
