Symbolizing the union of the spiritual and mortal worlds, the chakana cross originates from several pre-Hispanic cultures, including the Inca. Nancy Quispe of Peru pays homage to the chakana, handcrafting it with intricate sterling silver filigree in this pair of dangle earrings. Each cross is set with a round stone of natural chrysocolla in the center, evoking the green valleys of the Andes.

For artisan Dina from Peru, handcrafting jewelry with an Incan flair is a family affair. Her husband learned ceramic techniques from her, and the whole family works in one artisan form or another. "My work is a family endeavor and our designs are ancestral ones," she says. She designs this set of three beaded bracelets which are hand-strung. Jasper, obsidian, tiny sterling silver beads, smooth green and red beads, and handcrafted ceramic beads give the stretch bracelets a variety of colors and textures.

Maria Cutipa of Peru was inspired by the geometry and patterns of the Incas to create this soft and warm 100% alpaca cardigan sweater. The cardigan is slate grey with an earthy palette of burgundy, orange, and green in the pattern. Crochet trims the button front and crew neck.
