Mexican artisans Zeny and Reyna handcraft this exquisite ornament from copal wood, transforming the piece into a traditional alebrije figurine whose palette of emerald and citron hues creates a dazzling illusion. Keeping watch over his pride, this lion figurine is poised to defend against any harm that may come his way. Hand carved by artist Gordon Adu, the gyata, which translates to "lion" in the Akan language, shows himself as the great protector. Crafted from wood and local clay, the artist tints the sculpture and adds teeth constructed from recycled plastic to make clear this magnificent animal's reign as king of the jungle.

Ketut Sandi creates this depiction from the Hindu epic Ramayana, diligently hand-carving this scene from a slab of cempaka wood. The duo is realized with stunningly intricate details, surrounded by a vast jungle.

This museum replica depicts a shaman transforming himself into a jaguar. One side of the face has long feline fangs, while the human side shows a serpent emerging from the nose and the ears takes the shape of a deer. Among Peru's pre-Inca Cupisnique culture, identified by archeologist Rafael Larco Hoyle in the 1940s, the face of this jungle cat is frequently seen in their art. Walter Jose Acosta depicts the image in a huaco, or clay vessel. The original can be seen in the Museo Larco in Lima.
