"Proud of my Mexican roots, I designed this series of 10 coloring postcards featuring the masks of fantastical animals and other creatures. They are inspired by the many clay, paper and wood masks found throughout Mexican artistry," explains Alejandra Aceves. She includes 10 original and different coloring masks inspired by Mexico's millenary cultures including those of Olmec, Maya, Zapotec, and Huichol origin, as well as others from traditional feasts, such as Day of the Dead skulls.

The set of 10 postcards arrives in an acrylic box with information about Aceves' project. Inspired by the illness she lives with, she realized that the symptoms diminished when she concentrated on drawing. Her wish is for others to enjoy being able to relax while coloring her postcards.

A magnificent wooden Owo mask evokes the glory of West African culture, handcrafted by master artisan Daniel Nyadedzor. "Owo," pronounced "owwor" in the local dialect, means snake. A mystical mask, it has two intertwined snakes reclining on the crest, complemented by a striking human visage on the forehead. Another interesting feature is the smoking pipe in his open mouth. Metal plates embossed with beautiful African symbols adorn the forehead and nose.

Sese, a local wood from Eastern Ghana, is patiently hand-carved and sanded to achieve the desired form. The piece is then delicately painted with black emulsion and coated with potassium. After a careful polishing, red tones are applied to the piece to add a rustic look. This historical work makes a wonderful addition to any collection.

Very unique and well-crafted

I love wearing this necklace. Nicely carved, and the pink accents stand out well against the earthy brown/black. Perfect length, no clasps to mess with. I browsed all the African mask pendants and this one is my favorite.

Very nice!

The masks are made very well made and the single layer is easy to breathe through. Some of us have trouble breathing through masks (due to health issues) and these are perfect. They fit well and are comfortable. Island breeze designs are very pretty. I gave my sister one to try and this is the only one she can wear. She just placed an order for more thanks for helping her wear a mask. I do recommend hand wash.
