Details

This mask of striking zoopomorphic features replicates those worn by the Bemba people of Zambia and Democratic Republic of Congo. They are also known as Babemba, meaning "People of the Lake" and it was worn by their sorcerers and healers for their rites of magic and healing. This wall mask by Eva Asantewa Amakye is carved by hand of seasoned sese wood featuring animal horns and ears, and such a wide opened mask it seems to split the mask in two.
