Her features are composed, her head lifted with pride as a bird alights on her head. Evelyn Kafui designs this elegant mask, adorning the surface with aluminum repoussé. She names it Amiyo, "A Valiant Woman" in the language of Ghana's Krobo people. "Such masks are used by the Krobo tribe in the Eastern Region of Ghana during the funeral ceremonies of brave women in the society," the artisan says. "This shows that the good deeds of a woman on earth can never be forgotten. It serves as a memorial."
