Patiently handwoven on the backstrap loom, ancient motifs recall the splendor of the Inca empire, when such textiles were more highly prized than gold. Artisans of the Center for Traditional Textiles of Cusco craft a handbag of timeless beauty, combining blue and with two shades of red on a dark blue background. They name their design for Chinchero, where time seems to have stood still for centuries and the Quechua language is spoken and seek to keep the old textile traditions alive.
The community raises and cares for its own alpacas. The fleece is washed, carded and spun by hand using a pushka, or drop spindle. The dyes come from plants, nuts and tree bark. The next step is one of the most important, as the artisan prepares the warp, or vertical threads for the backstrap loom. This determines the size of the textile, the color combinations, and the patterns that will be woven.
The intensity of color can vary depending on the hardness of the water, the altitude and the local dye sources, making each textile a unique piece of handcrafted art. The bag is fully lined and opens to reveal a convenient zipper pocket.

I get lots of “wow!” compliments when I carry this purse. The colors are beautiful and the pattern is complex. Overall, this purse is very pleasing to the eye, and also to the touch (not scratchy on your shoulder). The dark blues and burgundy hues are so sublime. Highly recommend!

This handbag is wonderfully artistic. The design is so original and the wool fabric is soft and vibrant. Even the bottom of this artistic piece has these cute colorful stripes that blend in gorgeously with the whole piece.

I was immediately impressed with the care taken in constructing this bag. The horizontal fabric goes all the way around for the body of the bag with only one seam. The base of the bag is squared well and stitched perfectly. The lining is nicely constructed and theres a zippered pocket for items that might be otherwise lost in the bottom of the bag.

Every time I carry this purse I have women -- and one man who was looking for a birthday gift for his wife -- who LOVED this purse and asked where I got it. I gave them your website! And when I told them its alpaca, they were delighted and one squeeled, Oh, I LOVE alpaca! WOW! I think its great, and one thing I really like about it is that it holds my wallet, phone, a few other items--and then the purse says, Clean me out! The size is what I was looking for and then I found this BEAUTIFUL option. Abit pricier than I wanted, but worth EVERY PENNY! THANKS!

This handbag is absolutely beautiful! The colors are both gentle and calming (the blues and greens) and eyecatchingly bright -- (the beautiful berry/wine colored section down the center, which also incorporates lots of other colors.) This bag has a wonderful texture to it, as well. I love that it was loom-woven, and is also one-of-a-kind. Its sturdy, and a useful size, as well, and easily holds my (large) wallet, phone, and other necessities.
