Yuni Kristina conjures classic Javanese batik patterns in mesmerizing shades of black, gray, and green. Stamped by hand on a luxurious silk shawl, they include the parang, or dagger, once exclusive to the courts of Surakarta and Jogyakarta. Formerly reserved for the sultan's use, flowers and the kawung,--an eight-pointed rosette set within a square, rhombus, or circle-- complement the parang.
Each motif is created by hand, as evidenced by the occasional pencil mark or slight color variations.

This is a very nice scarf and will not return, however, the person I had in mind to give is fond of the color purple or lavender. The description, which I failed to notice, says black grey, and green, which it is. The photo shows purple and blue.

My wife started collecting batik when we lived in Jakarta. The collection is now quite large and she has given lectures on batik - to Indonesians, among others. She was thrilled by the scarf - wonderfully executed.
