Cedar relief panel, "Jesus on the Cross"

Mary reaches toward her son while Joseph tries to comfort them both. Jesus gazes down at her from the cross with sorrow and compassion. Javier Ramirez explores one of the Christian faith's greatest tenets – that Jesus' death on the cross provides salvation for mankind, as Christ was crucified in their stead. Conquering death, he rose from the grave and returned to heaven. The letters "INRI" stand for Iesus Nazarenvs Rex Ivdaeorvm, Latin for "Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews." The reverent relief sculpture is masterfully carved and painted by hand.
