Details

A pretty young princess sits just behind the elephant's shoulders as the splendid pachyderm parades down a crowded street. One of her hosts sits in back in the howdah, pointing out the sights. Pathawee works in the style of old Siam to create a glimpse of life in Thailand's Nan province in bygone times. He finds inspiration in the temple paintings at Wat Nong Bua, built in 1862. Its craftspeople and painters were Thai Lue people who migrated from southern China, bringing their artistic style with them.
