According to Buddhist teachings, the beauty of a lotus that blossoms even though its roots are set in the mud represents purity, resurrection, and the enlightened being who emerges undefiled from the chaos and illusion of the world. Chappell enhances the flower's color with boost saturation before printing on Fujicolor crystal archive paper, presenting the signed photograph on a mat board.
