Guatemalan Book Showcasing Traditional Textiles, "Cofradía - Texture and Color"

Originating in Europe, Cofradías, or "confraternities," were religious organizations in Guatemala that helped preserve traditional handicrafts and textiles. The Asociación de Amigos del Museo Ixchel offers this cultural book, filled with pages that include photos and historical information in English and Spanish about the crafts of Guatemala's Cofradías. All purchases of this cultural book contribute to the Ixchel Museum.

The name of the Ixchel Museum honors the pre-Hispanic patron goddess of weaving and fertility. The Ixchel Museum was founded in 1977. It is private and a non-profit. The mission of the museum is to collect, document, rescue, and exhibit the heritage of indigenous textiles in Guatemala, teaching it to people in order to conserve and spread it.
