This joyful mask is the creation of West Africa's Christopher Nyasafo. Crafted from sese wood, the long oval face has lips that protrude in a delightful smile, dots on the cheeks and recycled glass beads tied with jute on the forehead. The colors are warm browns and orange. Known to disperse evil forces, this is the artist's own interpretation of the okukwe mask, used in performances during births, initiation rituals, weddings, and funerals by the Galoa people of western Gabon.
The colors of the beads and jute can vary slightly.

We love it. The use of the primary colors is wonderful, and stays within earth tones. A happy mask, which makes us smile and brightens the room!
